Dee 6/1/65 - 3/2/06

Deanna 1965 - 2006

Deanna was truly a woman who put faith into action. I have never felt such a great sense of loss and yet a great sense of joy.  To know Dee is with the one who loved her the most and whom she longed to walk and talk with gives me joy beyond words.  Knowing I will not have another long late night conversation with her, where we would laugh and sometimes cry together makes tears flow unstoppable from my eyes and gives me sorrow beyond words.  Also, knowing that I will be with her again when we are all in the presence of the Lamb of God takes me back to the great joy.

Dee was by far one of the strongest believers in the finished work of Christ on her behalf.  The way she lived her life showed that.  Through all her life trials and there were many I never heard her doubt or waver in the faith.  She knew God loved her and she kept going even when no one would follow with her.  She took seriously the plight of hurting people and was willing to lay down her own needs and wants for others.

In a recent conversation she said, “I can’t wait to go home to my Lord.”  He must have heard her heart and blessed her with that desire.

I remember the first time I met Dee.  She came to a Bill Glass prison weekend, our first in Ohio the summer of 2001.  While on her way her car broke down, surprise surprise.  Doug had to go pick her up in his 1963 police car and there the adventure began.  From the moment we got together that week-end she was in our hearts forever.

Deanna never had a child of her own, but every child she came to know received love from her, that fact was evident when she became involved with the Dream Center.

She heard of what we were doing at the Dream Center and loved the Adopt a Block program and jumped in full force. There were four little boys on the block she joined that became so attached to Dee that you hardly saw Dee Dee around the block or Dream Center with out them.  She took them to church, to youth group, Burger King, and on many adventures.  We called them the BC kids (BC, Behaviorally Challenged or Before Christ) but most would just call them bad children, but not Dee. Her dream was to make a difference in their lives and I believe she did.  We will all miss our beautiful Deanna immensely, but the void in these four young men’s lives will be tremendous.  I know they are heart broken and I pray a kind gentleman who loves the Lord will take up Dee’s cause of seeing them become the men God created them to be.

Almost lastly, I can say Dee Dee never met an animal she did not love and care for.  Not being an animal lover myself, this I did not understand, but she even put herself in harms way for God’s creatures although I did once cheer for my wonderful husband who rescued a dog from a cliff.

Lastly, if you are reading this you probably knew my friend Deanna; I just hoped you got to know her because she was someone worth knowing.  She would say though, “Christ is the only one worth knowing.”  Doug and I will not be with the family to celebrate her eternal birth into His Kingdom and this I am sad about.  We thought about delaying our R&R to Mexico, but each time we talked about it I could hear Dee Dee say,”are you crazy, I am with the Master, take a break”.  That is just how she was always thinking of others.  God, I loved that girl.

Hi, I just wanted to say a few things about my friend, Deanna.  Deanna was one of the first people I met at the Dream Center.  Dee always had a smile on her face, and was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside.  We roomed together in the prison ministry, went to the jails together, and ministered together on the block through the dream center.  Whenever we went on the block together, all the kids would come out of their apartments and make a line for Deanna yelling "Miss Deanna!"  Whenever I go out on the block by myself, without Dee, they would come up to me "Where's Miss Deanna?"  Dee was one who listened to my innermost secrets and always offered me godly advice and was a faithful friend.  She is truly going to be missed.  We love you, Dee.  Love, Mary

Dear angel, our friend, above night
You've set a humble stage
Though gone in body, you shine bright
Soaring age to age

Your spirit left to guide us all
Though Heaven you reside
Where you heeded the call
And True Love's by your side

All who know you, surely miss you
Still many mourn each day
Even though, you're beyond the blue
Sending sweet prayers our way

So till we all, meet once again
We'll cherish and adore
The love you've given, us to mend
We'll last forevermore

Dear Beloved Deanna D. Varnhagen,

You shall forever remain in the hearts and souls who knew you. As I have so many ponderings of why you had to go so soon. I cry salty tears as the sea flows through me, I'd give my last breath to see you again, my dear, precious cousin, my most cherished friend. -tears-

You are like the sunrise, with such warmth in your eyes, the time you took for so many, the pain, the years, for others you've cried. My angel friend, there shall be no end, from then till now, somehow, the road to your soul continues to grow and grow.

You're a heavenly rose, with such loving power, your petals of beauty, are the gifts you share. While awake, or sleep, you heal the weak, for even though my teardrops fall, I'll remember your life, how you heeded the call. "I love and miss you so much."  -more tears-

There's no words that can do you justice, from the blossom tree to the sea, from the earth to heavenly skies, I adore you tenderly.
Our talks, your precious time, the drives, the walks, your trials and mine. The way you'd laugh, with the sparkle in your smile, how I will carry your memory with me, sweet soul, throughout eternity.

I love you Deedee...
May you rest in peace.
Your Cousin Timothy~

Dear Deanna

Very lovely with times so sweet
An angel of love sang so unique
Singing in unity of one
Speaking within a holy tongue

My heart was full with hymns of praise
Now how I long for yesterday
My angel in the sky peace found
May bliss within your sould abound

For where I stand, life seems unfair
And still this day, the truth's unclear
But I will serach for your rainbow
With eagle wings, I'll soar solo

Until the winds of time lift me
Above the clouds of mystery
I'll choose to bear both day and night
The love you've shown me in the light

Please say a prayer on high for me
Though I am not fond of destiny
Dear Deanna, beyond the blue
Always remember, "I love you."

Deanna,
You NOW know how much I loved you.
I knew you better than anybody, and I KNOW
where you are.  I am SO HAPPY for you, but I
so miss you, and can't
wait to see you again.....
Love....

Tony
